Initiatives of Change Youth Forum in Cairo
The Egyptian Moral Re-Armament (IofC) Cultural Committee organized an Arab Moral Re-Armament youth event that took place 12 April to 18 April of this year in Cairo. The objective of the meeting was to build new cultural bridges and collaborate together to produce sustainable and lasting relationships. The gathering and forum was entitled 'A Better Me for a Better World.' The Lebanese Moral Re-Armament delegation included seven young participants. Also present within the group was a representative of the Tunisian Moral Re-Armament organization. The group met with approximately 50 Egyptians of all ages, all of whom were concerned with the role of youth. More specifically, the role youth play in changing the future for the better by changing oneself first.
Bolstered by the theme of the forum, the discussions were lively and robust. The forum broached upon a variety of topics. Among these topics was the importance of positive change, our responsibility towards change, and how to create a vision towards achieving goals and how to set priorities and manage time. The dialogue focused upon discerning myth from reality and the gap between theory and action. The conversation shone a light on the differences between ego and egotism, aspects of discrimination, and how to avoid prejudice and handle its implications.
Other topics included frankness and the balance between straightforwardness and courtesy, understanding different personality types, and the influence upon everyday communication. Effective communication tools, the impact of body language, and art as a tool for expression and peace were also discussed. The role of faith and guided quiet time was emphasized and was highlighted as an effective tool for improving one’s personal development. The notion of happiness was deliberated and was recognized as an important criterion for the quality of life. Several stories of profound and personal change were shared during the proceedings.
