Women’s Participation in the Peace Process across Asia
Exploring a Common Vision

Creators of Peace regional gathering at Asia Plateau 2020, 17th to 21st February, India

Creators of Peace International are bringing together women peacebuilders and community leaders from across Asia with an aim to connect and collaborate with one another. We will be inspired and strengthened to galvanise a common vision in peace creation and trustbuilding for our region.

CoP Regional group in Kathmandu - February 2018

Asia Plateau India

Our gathering will be hosted in the beautiful setting of the Asia Plateau conference centre in India over 5 days. The programme is open to existing Creators of Peace facilitators and women who have participated in Creators of Peace Circles, as well as others who know of our work and have a heart to support and deliver our Peace Circle programme across Asia.  We are also interested to hear from grassroots movements, NGOs and institutions who work with women and peace across Asia who wish to collaborate with our work.

This special gathering will invite participants to co-create a space that will guide us to reflect together, listen to one another and set a vision for a unified strategy as we enter into a new decade for Asia.

It will be a nourishing week, with time to recharge and rejuvenate for the brave work you do as peacebuilders, change makers and connectors of communities.  We hope you can join us.

Building resilience and marking the next decade together

2020 is a landmark year for women.  It is the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action[1] and the 20th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325[2]. We also mark the 5th anniversary of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which involved governments committing to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls by 2030[3].  Throughout 2020 we as Creators of Peace will join NGOs across the globe in advocating for the renewal of international commitments to further women in peace processes.

Working in over 50 countries, Creators of Peace will continue to develop, challenge and support women to:

  • explore responsibility for their part in the perpetration of conflict and in its resolution
  • engage in the creation of peace at every level of society
  • break the chains of hate and revenge
  • build networks of forgiveness and friendship across racial, religious and social divides

This gathering will also be supporting the Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS) 10 point plan[4] and SDG goals listed below.

#3 Health and Wellbeing
#5 Gender Equality
#13 Climate Action
#16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
#17 Partnerships and Collaboration
