Creators of Peace

Creators of Peace transforms, empowers and engages women in peace creation.

 

The Creators of Peace (CoP) women's initiative was launched in 1991 at the Initiatives of Change conference centre in Caux, Switzerland by the Hon Anna Abdallah Msekwa of Tanzania, a respected politician and leader of her country's women's organizations. In her inaugural speech, she urged everyone to 'create peace wherever we are, in our hearts, our homes, our workplace and our community. We all pretend that someone else is the stumbling block… Could that someone be myself?'

CoP is now a global network of people working on different continents through Creators of Peace Circles, workshops, personal encounters, community building activities and international conferences - Caux, Switzerland '91 and '94, India 2001, Uganda 2005 and Australia 2009. A delegation attended the UN Women's Conference in Beijing (1995). In 2016, the 25th anniversary of CoP was celebrated in Caux through the 'Living Peace' 2016 Conference

The Caux Conference Centre in Switzerland hosted a week, from 3 to 8 July 2015, dedicated to discussing governance, its structures and the human factors that can enable leaders and citizens to develop an inclusive and democratic approach.

‘The most valuable possession you can own is an open heart, and the most powerful weapon you can be is an instrument of peace,’ said one of the 16 women who attended the “what creates or destroys peace” session. It proved to be a major turning point for her during the Creators of Peace Circles in Kitale- Trans-Zoia County-Kenya on 12-14 May.

The Creators of Peace (CoP) Kenya team had another opportunity to meet and interact with 14 women that had gone through the intensive three days CoP training in Kisumu County in 2014. The interaction was during a follow- up session that took place on the 13 June, at the Shauri Moyo Baptist Church in Kisumu.

‘Creators of Peace Circles revived my dead energy’ said Pamela Ndalo who was among the 15 participants who took part in the first follow-up meeting in Huruma estate, Nairobi in May. Of the 15 participants invited from various CoP trainings that were done between 2013 to 2015, four of them were men who through their sharing, proved that CoP can work for men too.
