Creators of Peace

Creators of Peace transforms, empowers and engages women in peace creation.

The Creators of Peace (CoP) women's initiative was launched in 1991 at the Initiatives of Change conference centre in Caux, Switzerland by the Hon Anna Abdallah Msekwa of Tanzania, a respected politician and leader of her country's women's organizations. In her inaugural speech, she urged everyone to 'create peace wherever we are, in our hearts, our homes, our workplace and our community. We all pretend that someone else is the stumbling block… Could that someone be myself?'

CoP is now a global network of people working on different continents through Creators of Peace Circles, workshops, personal encounters, community building activities and international conferences - Caux, Switzerland '91 and '94, India 2001, Uganda 2005 and Australia 2009. A delegation attended the UN Women's Conference in Beijing (1995). In 2016, the 25th anniversary of CoP was celebrated in Caux through the 'Living Peace' 2016 Conference

Peace Circle group Trinity Washington University

Who is speaking out? Who is stepping up? Who will be a voice for peace in a world of conflict and hatred? Ten women met in June in a Peace Circle at Trinity Washington University to reflect upon what peace meant to them. Trinity students, staff, and faculty from all three branches of the Abrahamic faiths—Jewish, Muslim and Christian—met with other women in the city to tell their personal stories, share their faith, and address their circles of concern about peace.

Arshaluys Mushkambaryan, who has introduced Creators of Peace to Armenia, had attended Peace Circles in India, at Asia Plateau in 2015 and had felt that her country needs this project on a local basis to help people to overcome inner and outer disturbances and build peace within and around them.

Spread over the weekend of 14 and 15 May, the Peace Circle saw a group of 12 women of all ages, from Sudan, Myanmar and Malaysia, support one another through a programme based on the themes of the Creators of Peace model of Gathering Points, interspersed with story-telling by the participants.

The Creators of Peace team had the privilege of facilitating its first ever Peace Circle (PC) in the Afrikaans speaking Noordgesig area from the 13 – 15 April 2016. Nine unemployed young women attended the Circle which took place at the Methodist Church of Southern Africa.
